Theme
Fresh – Fruit – Soldier
The first component of this year theme is the word - Fresh. To be fresh (and not rot) we need to be “always in God”. The bible says in John 15:7, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” To be in God means we have God’s word in our heart, so we are able to understand, obey and apply God’s word.
The second component of the theme is the word - Fruit. We are told to “bear much fruit”. Jesus tells us in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Thus, in order to bear fruit we are to connect to Jesus.
The third and last component of the theme is the word - Soldier. We are commanded to “Be God’s elite soldier”. In fighting this spiritual battle for God, we have God as our general. Just as we cannot bear fruit if we are not connected to God, so we cannot fight this battle without obedience to God’s leading. Ephesians 6:12-13 says “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Therefore, in fighting this spiritual battle we must put on the armour of God by being always in God.
